Electrical Works Carried Out at the Carleton Clinic

The Carleton Clinic is a hospital in Carlisle, which is made up of six inpatient wards and community clinics offering a range of different mental health services.

We have worked on several projects within this site ranging from minor electrical alterations to full ward refurbishments at times spanning several phases.

A brief overview of the electrical works carried out throughout includes:

  • Full strip out of existing electrical services to the relevant build phases.
  • Installation of new TPN distribution boards & submain network to serve both the general patient areas & admin offices and SPN distribution boards serving individual bedrooms.
  • Alterations, modifications and at times a re-wire of the lighting and emergency lighting systems including the supply and installation of new Anti-Ligature light fittings.
  • Where the project included new lighting to bedroom corridors, the lighting within these areas includes a ‘night mode’ whereby light levels can be set to dim down to around 10% during night hours. The lighting in this area is also programmed to illuminate to full brightness if the staff attack system is activated, to ensure the safety of the patients and staff.
  • Alterations, modifications and at times a re-wire of the small power within the staff and patient areas including all accessories and outlets.
  • New CAT6e structured cabling installed to existing ward data cabinets including wall mounted outlets and wifi points in the ceiling void.
  • Installation of new structured cabling and associated power supplies ready for the installation of a new visual patient monitoring system.
  • Alterations carried out to the existing addressable fire alarm system to suit the new layouts. Additional due care and attention was taken to ensure any existing occupied areas outside the area of works remained live during the relevant projects. The fire alarm system is commissioned by the incumbent fire alarm maintenance provider to ensure compliance.
  • Existing CCTV systems have been extended to suit new layouts and, in some wards, full new IP CCTV systems have been installed to suit the Client’s requirements.
  • In some instances, a full new Staff Attack and Nurse Call system has been supplied installed by one of the Client’s preferred specialist contractors.
  • If the existing staff attack system within a ward is being retained, a new stand alone nurse call system has been installed to suit the Client’s requirements.
  • Several wards have been supplied with a new controlled TV system and installed by our specialist sub-contractor. The system is capable of limiting viewing capabilities by only allowing viewing of pre-determined and agreed TV channels to suit the patient’s needs.
  • New access control and intercom systems have been installed where required, enhancing security with relevant departments.
  • Full Testing and inspection carried out during the phased hander of the build areas to meet current legislation and wiring regulations.
